The highly-anticipated sophomore album from Angry Baby favourite Helen Connelly is released on 25th October. Garden of Kisses, the follow-up to Helen’s acclaimed debut Life Love and Lyricality, is a four-track EP, heralded by the signature single Do You Remember. Before you read on, Helen Connelly is giving a FREE download of “Live A Lie”, the signature single from her EP ‘Love, Life and Lyricality’, to Angry Baby readers. If you’re not already subscribed to Angry Baby, just pop the email address that you’d like it delivered to here and it will be on its way to you straight away, together with a bumper collection of music that has been shared by Angry Baby. The music comes from outstanding artists that you may not have heard before. With a mix of rock, pop, folk…you name it…there’s bound to be something new that floats your musical boat, and all for free! What’s not to like about that?!
Opening the album “Do You Remember” sets out Helen Connelly’s stall as a jazz-blues artist to be reckoned with. No fancy production tricks, just Helen’s unique vocal styling sitting atop beautifully building arrangements. “Do You Remember” is the product of songwriting collaboration with producer Ian Post, that also created “Deep Under Water”, an upbeat offering delivered with urgency, showcasing a pop edge sitting alongside Helen’s jazz-blues vibe. With both tracks also mixed by Grammy award winning producer Simon Gogerly, quality shines through.
Title track “Garden Of Kisses” takes it down to Helen’s signature smoky jazz club sound. Sensuous and appealing, this is a further collaboration with Simon Gogerly, who joined Helen as co-writer/producer/mixer.
Bonus track “Set Me Free” closes the collection. Recorded with DA Music Group and Ian Post, this is Helen’s unique sound, stripped back, powerful yet intimate. There’s a 60s thing going on too, as Helen weaves a story of romance that’s bound to turn bad.
Garden of Kisses is a worthy addition to jazz-blues music collections everywhere. It’s a delight to hear a vocalist developing her style, especially through the delivery of original material. No doubt there is more to come too – Helen Connelly is definitely one to keep an eye on for the future.
